Fijian delicacy is what the tourist in Fiji enjoy the most.

Holidaying in Fiji will become more expensive for tourists and locals with Value Added Tax increasing to 15 per cent, says Fiji Island Hoteliers Association president Dixon Seeto.

The two and half per cent increase will be added on the current five per cent hotel turn-over tax, which will affect the pricing in hotels and resorts around the country.

This according to Seeto will jeopardise Fiji’s competitive position in the international tourism market.

Seeto told Fijilive.com that while understanding that Government needs to generate revenue; however, the increase will lead to Fijian holidaying becoming expensive.

“This could mean that tourist arrivals would decrease, as tourist may prefer cheaper holidaying destinations rather then coming to Fiji,” he said.

However, the Association has welcomed the $15 million allocation given to Fiji Visitors Bureau as marketing grant and $2 million for operational cost.

The FVB is heavily involved with promoting Fiji as a favourable and affordable tourist destination overseas.
