Tourists reaching our shores with the main aim to enjoy the best of what Fiji have to offer can also take pleasure in the sweet tastes of Fiji made chocolate.

Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa have opened La Parisienne, a popular sidewalk cafe that boasts Fiji’s only home grown range of gourmet chocolates produced by chocolatier and Adi Chocolate Fiji owner, Tom Ohito Zukoshi.

"We’re delighted to be able to offer our guests a sweet treat with a Fijian twist. In my book Adi Chocolate Fiji is arguably the world`s purest fine chocolate factory so we’re proud to support,” said Sofitel’s executive Chef Brendon Coffey.

Located on the unofficial ‘cacao island’ of Vanua Levu in Fiji, Adi Chocolate Fiji started manufacturing their brand of fine dark chocolates in 2007, using available resources found in the Fiji islands including the tropical sun-dried Trinitario beans grown in the deep rainforests on this island, and raw cane sugar.

"Although Fiji does not have the chocolate history or culture like Olmec, Aztec or Maya, the destination does have a very unique history in regards to its cacao trees,” said Chef Coffey.

"In 1880, the British brought many of the crops to Fiji from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) including trinitario cacao beans from Trinidad, and later planted original varieties of cacao plants on Vanua Levu and as such it’s now known to many as the Koko (cacao) Island.”

Originally sourcing the product for the hotel, Chef Coffey said Sofitel is always seeking new ways to support local industry and suppliers, and provide guests with a true ‘taste’ of Fiji.

Year round, Sofitel uses Adi Fiji’s Kokostic as its drinking chocolate and to make café mocha at its restaurants and sidewalk cafe, La Parisienne. Adi’s Kokostic is 55 per cent cacao and free of nuts, emulsifiers and dairy.

The cafe also sells five different flavours of Adi chocolate available from FJD$12.50 per 55 gram bar.
