After numerous heartbreaking seasons Fiji has finally clawed its way back to superpower status in the sport of 7s rugby.

The Fiji 7s team last weekend announced their return as the top of dog of 7s rugby after winning the Wellington 7s.

They defeated a strong and determined South African outfit.

Led by the 7s magician Waisele Serevi the Fiji team showed their class in the pool games and progressed easily into the quarterfinals where they met and defeated Australia.

In the semifinal the team faced a new look New Zealand outfit. It as always was an epic battle. Fiji came out victorious.

With the games being broadcasted live on Fiji Television, the nation watched in jubilation as Fiji went on to win the tournament.

It was a close final. It took a blistering dash to the try-line by one of Fiji’s wingers in extra time to seal the win.

For those who don’t know - 7s rugby is Fiji’s national sport and is played with great passion here in Fiji.

Fijians are natural-born rugby players and are specially adapted to the game of 7s.

The team has now set its sights on winning the Los Angles 7s, which is their next tournament.
