Enforcement implementation on drivers who violate speed limits and are caught by Fiji’s Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) speed camera will begin from the third week of March.

LTA chief executive Naisa Tuinaceva said two cameras will be used with one camera mounted at the Nabua traffic lights for the red light violators.

“Bookings will be issued to owners of vehicles as these cameras will capture the number plate through the region of interest,” said Tuinaceva.

“If there is any dispute by the owner then they are required to declare through an appropriate statuary declaration. The whole process takes 49 days,” he said.

Tuinaceva said they have looked at all avenues in ensuring that the process will not have any anomalies including the enforcement process so that their court cases are well covered and there has been continues training internally.

He said they are adamant that things are in the right direction and LTA is reminding those whose vehicles that were sold to ensure that proper transfers are completed by then.

He also said the camera in an hour can capture as close to 100 offenders depending on the traffic flow and all captured images will be processed by adjudicators at LTA Valelevu where the infringements will be issued.
