Former commander of the Fijian Navy, Commander Viliame Naupoto, is now at the helm of the Fiji Trade and Investment Board.

Naupoto confirmed to FijiLive that he took over responsibilities of the chairman of the FTIB, the Government body tasked with promoting investment in the country, last week after the departure of chairman Francis Narayan.

Narayan returned to New Zealand last Tuesday after publicly citing differences with management.

“We had a board meeting last Tuesday where it was announced that I was to take up the position of deputy chairman of FTIB,” said Naupoto.

“I am basically taking care of the chairman’s responsibilities until someone is appointed to the position.”

Naupoto is also the acting permanent secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries, a position he was transferred to early last month.

A month earlier Naupoto was moved from the position of Director Immigration to that of acting permanent secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.
