Walking to the tune of a classic love song and standing ovation, Fiji’s Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum escorted his new wife Adi Ela Gavoka into the Novotel hall in Lami for their wedding reception.

The two exchanged their vows earlier today at an intimate ceremony that was described by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama as “beautiful”.

While addressing invited guests, Sayed-Khaiyum said his heart was stolen by the woman he now calls his wife.

He said he was happy to marry someone like Adi Ela who had a simple and yet sophisticated outlook on life.

“I’m happy to have someone who I can talk with and someone I can share things with.” he said while addressing the packed and beautifully decorated Novotel hall.

Decked out in a three piece suit, the usually calm Minister said he was comfortable talking about issues his Ministry dealt with but felt that it was difficult for him to speak about his wedding; one that he felt was the most important of his life.

Sayed-Khaiyum thanked all his guests including the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, cabinet ministers and business moguls.

Bainimarama congratulated the newly weds and wished them a happy and prosperous marriage.

Wearing a silk white Chinese-collar shirt, the Prime Minister made guests laugh when he joked that the Attorney General does not answer to him anymore.

Bainimarama said he was happy that Sayed-Khaiyum was finally married because he “had been asked awkward questions before about the Attorney General’s private life”.

“Now I can say that yes he is married” He added.

Sitting at the main table were the couple, Sayed-Khaiyum’s parents, Adi Ela’s mother and her brother Apakuki Gavoka.

Adi Ela’s older brother also congratulated the happy couple adding that he was happy that his sister was in capable hands.

The bride is the daughter of former Fiji Rugby Union Chairman, Viliame Gavoka. She hails from Nadroga where the Attorney General’s mother, Lateefa Sayed-Khaiyum also hails from.
