A 30-year-old man charged for allegedly murdering a taxi driver in Waituri, Nausori has been further remanded in custody by the Nausori Magistrates Court.

The court heard that the case of Divendra Naicker will be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The court also heard tension is still high in the community where the accused reside and releasing him on bail will be unsafe.

Magistrate Waleen George said the case will be called again on January 20 before being transferred to the High Court in Suva.

Naicker who appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court on December 20 has pleaded not guilty to the charges of one count of murder, one count of theft of a motor vehicle and one count of driving a taxi without driving licence.

He allegedly murdered a taxi driver Vishal Anand Mishra, 35, and unlawfully drove his taxi last year in December.
