Three men purporting to be businessmen allegedly obtained assorted goods amounting to thousands of dollars from various companies in Suva after issuing bogus cheques.

Fiji Police Force is warning business operators to practice due diligence when dealing with sales involving cheque.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the incident occurred during the month of June 2012 and early July.

Naisoro said the three accused face multiple charges of obtaining goods by deception, obtaining financial advantage by deception and dishonestly causing a loss.

The trio appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday and are remanded till next month.

Naisoro said it is alleged that the three systemically placed orders through phone and request for delivery to be made at a certain location.

She said it is alleged they intercepted the delivery after directing the driver elsewhere.

Investigations went on to reveal that the group obtained the goods after issuing bogus cheques for which the account is closed and no funds are available.

The products were later sold to other business operators.
