The construction of the first phase of Fiji casino will commence this month in Denarau Island, Nadi.

This was confirmed by One Hundred Sands managing director Larry Claunch at the Fiji Business Forum at the Holiday Inn in Suva yesterday.

The $290 million project has raised another bar in raising $400 million internationally for the five star integrated hotel.

“It was said the $290m would take two years to raise after the license is issued, but we raise $400m in just 6 months,” said Claunch.

Claunch said they will start with the construction as soon as this month as the fund is readily available.

He said they have been raising this much money offshore proves that Fiji has a healthy financial environment.

Claunch has reassured that it would open by October, 2013.

He said around 500 people will be employed during the construction phase and between 600 to 850 people mare expected to be employed during operations.

The integrated resort will have 500 slot machines and 57 games table, poker area, race and sports book, and an exclusive high stakes gaming area.

There will be four restaurants, high energy night clubs, and 174 hotel rooms.

For a phase 1 project, they are planning to construct 144 suites, 16 junior suites, 12 executive suites and 2 presidential suites.

It will also have a 1600 seat state-of-the art convention centre.
