A 57-year-old man of Vunivau, Labasa this morning axed his 53-year-old wife and his 93-year-old father-in-law to death.

A 29-year- old male who was returning from drinking grog heard the commotion and cry for help from the house of the deceased at around 1.30am and went to check.

He saw the suspect striking a 23-year old woman with an axe outside the house. He tried to intervene but was also struck by the suspect, however he escaped injuries.

The 23-year-old victim received injuries to her head and is admitted at the Labasa Hospital while the suspect is also admitted for hypertension and is under police guard as investigations continue.
