A 28-year-old man died in a car crash this morning at Maui Bay near Sigatoka.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra confirmed the incident to FijiLive and said the driver of the vehicle is being treated at the Sigatoka hospital.

Mishra said the vehicle that was carrying the victim to Suva veered off the road and hit a post.

Police is still investigating the cause of the accident as it is suspected the driver was drunk and was over-speeding.

The road death toll stands at 31 compared to 32 for the same period last year.
