A 44- year- old cane cutter of Karavi, Ba lost his life yesterday while trying to save the life of his son who got trapped by at the flood gate during their family fishing trip.

The deceased's 22-year-old son started to face difficulties in water and was struggling against the strong currents which prompted the man to jump into the river and come to his rescue.

Unfortunately, he himself got swept by the current and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ba Mission Hospital.

The post mortem has been scheduled for Thursday.

Following the incident, the Fiji Police Force is once again appealing to members of the public to be aware of the hazards and dangers of their environment for their own safety.
