Fiji to host world premier of ‘BULA QUO!’ Fiji will host the world premiere of ‘BULA QUO!’, a film featuring rock legends Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt.

The action-comedy caper which sees the move of the duo from gold discs to silver screen was shot in Fiji.

The Status Quo get caught up in a game of cat and mouse after they unwittingly stumble across an illegal gambling den.

Witnessing the murder of the latest luckless victim of the gang’s favourite pastime, Russian Roulette, the band flee the scene clutching the only evidence that can bring the bad guys down.

As the ‘godfather’ bays for their blood, can their luck hold out? In true James Bond style, with the help of sea-planes, speed boats, jet skis, golf carts and scuba gear, ‘BULA QUO!’ follows Status Quo and their entourage as they attempt evade capture, stay alive and escape paradise unscathed.

The movie’s director Stuart St Paul said the shooting begun in February last year although they had planned to shoot a movie in Fiji Islands in 2011.

“It wasn’t until we arrived here, and began the detailed preparation, that we realised just how excellent a plan it was.” he said.

“As we began to tour the islands in search of locations, spend time with the Fijian people and experience the uniqueness of island life, the film began to transform in ways we could not have anticipated.”

The severe March floods in the Western Division threatened to close the film down before the cameras had even begun to roll but the rallying efforts of the local crew, businesses and residents ultimately saved the film.

“We thought it was the sun, sea and sand that made Fiji a paradise. Lovely as they are, we now know that it’s the people.” St Paul concluded.

Producer Tim Major said, “It was incredible. Some of these people had lost everything, but their main concern was keeping our film running. It was humbling to see how, whilst they were putting their lives back together, they were still working with us to get the job done. Their commitment had an enormous influence on the UK crew and the film itself.”

“This influence resulted in the film becoming a love letter to Fiji. It explores the beauty of not only the white sandy beaches of the more tourist-driven Fiji, but also heads inland to show Fiji at its most natural and photogenic. The film captures the true beauty of Fiji.”

“Both Fiji and the Fijian people entered the DNA of the movie. Without them and their country, ‘BULA QUO!’ would be a very different finished product.”

“That’s why we wanted to host the World Premiere here, back where the transformation happened. It just seemed the right thing,” Major added.

The world premiere will held on May 13 at Village 6 cinemas in Suva.

The movie will then be screened at Village 6 and Village 4 cinemas from May 20th.
