8 parties to contest General Election

8 parties to contest General Election With Political Party Registration closing today following the issuance of the Writ of Elections by the President, 8 registered parties will contest the 2018 General Election.

These are the ruling FijiFirst Party, Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA), National Federation Party (NFP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fiji Labour Party (FLP), Unity Fiji, HOPE and Freedom Alliance Party.

Out of the eight parties, PDP is unlikely to contest the election after entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SODELPA earlier this year.

The 2018 General Election will be held on Wednesday November 14 from 7.30am to 6pm and the provisional results are expected to be the same night.

Candidates of the various parties will be contesting for the 51 seats in Parliament.
