The Unit which has been designed to conduct low risk maternity deliveries carried out 4 deliveries last month and is gearing up for 30 deliveries in October.

The Makoi Maternity Unit is a state of the art facility that has been constricted with an investment of FJD 6.83 million by the Fijian Government.

“Ambulatory services at the Makoi Maternity Unit have been fully operational since the opening of the Unit in February this year. These services include Maternal Child Health care, Antenatal clinics, booking clinics and postnatal clinics.”

“The Unit has commenced the low risk birth deliveries earlier this month.  The Unit is also expected to handle up to 100 deliveries per month as it gradually progresses towards achieving its full capacity.”

The low risk deliveries done at the Makoi Maternity Unit will ease the load at CWM Hospital maternity,” Minister Akbar said.

On average the Makoi Maternity Unit attends to 300 mothers per month through the antenatal clinics with 119 new bookings recorded for the months of July and August this year.

The Unit has also broadened the health care services for child care and primary care services all under one roof.
