Oct 22, 2018 11:59:02 AM

Wet weather to continue this week A trough of low pressure remains just to the north of Vanua Levu and is expected to gradually drift south with associated cloud and showers to affect the country this week.

Another trough of low pressure approaches the Group from the west and is anticipated to merge with the trough drifting south and affect the country for the next few days.

A Heavy Rain Alert is now in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands Lau and Lomaitiviti Group, Yasawa Group and the eastern half of Viti Levu and this is expected to be upgraded to Heavy Rain Warning within 12 to 24 hours.

A Strong Wind Warning remains in force for all Fiji Waters.

Occasional showers and few thunderstorms are expected over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, eastern half and interior parts of Viti Levu, Lau, Lomaiviti and Yasawa group.

Occasional showers are expected to increase to rain tonight over central parts of the country and becoming frequent and heavy tomorrow and gradually spread to other parts of the country.

With ground now saturated over most places, any more heavy rain in the same locations is likely to elevate the risk of flash flooding and flooding of low lying areas especially around high tide.

Therefore, communities living in flood prone and low lying areas are reminded to be alert to the possibility of flooding.
