Champs Labasa bow out of FACT

Defending champions Labasa bowed out of the 2016 Vodafone Fiji FACT at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park today after going down 3-2 in extra spell of the first semifinal.

The first half failed to produce any goal but the second half was full of dramas and action as Labasa was first to get on the scoreboard via an own Nadi goal as Ravinesh Singh was on his way to score.

Nippy marksman Ratu Anare put the Babasiga Lions further up in the 66th minute but a penalty by Captain Napolioni Qasevakatini kept the Jetsetters in the match.

And a beautiful run on the left flank by Lekima Gonerau which saw him beat four defenders resulted in the equalizer with Ame Votoniu tapping the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva to take the match into extra time.

Nadi took the lead for the first time early in the first spell of extra time as a William Valentine free-kick from the right-hand edge of the box was misjudged by the defence and the goalkeeper and landed straight into the back of the net.

Labasa toiled hard for the equalizer but smart quick defensive changes by Nadi coach Joseph Nand and some nice bit of goalkeeping by Vereti Dickson saw Nadi hold on till the final whistle.
