Navua loses crucial match points

Navua has been stripped off three match points for fielding a suspended player in its Southern Senior League clash against Northland Tailevu a fortnight ago.

Navua which was in the running for the top spot after walloping Northland Tailevu 13-1 in that encounter now drops to the third spot on the ladder and has a very slim chance to reclaim its status in the premier division in the new season.

Fiji FA Competitions Manager Amitesh Pal told FijiLive that Navua fielded striker Inoke O’Connor who was ineligible to play as he had two bookings to his name from previous matches and had to miss the game against Northland Tailevu.

“Navua has simply violated the rules of the competition despite knowing too well that the player was not eligible to play. Northland Tailevu therefore is awarded the match points of this fixture.”

Lami leads the Southern Senior League with 12 points and Nasinu is second with 11 points while Navua now has 8 points.

Tailevu Naitasiri has 9 points while Northland Tailevu sits at the bottom of the table with only 3 points.

In the games this weekend, Lami will play Northland Tailevu at 1pm while Nasinu and Navua will battle at 3pm.
