Ba overcomes tough Nadroga challenge

Ba fought tooth and nail to beat Nadroga 1-0 in its opening match of the 2016 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

The Imdad Ali coached side with the return of star striker Osea Vakatalesau failed to impress much and missed numerous scoring opportunities in both spells while the young Nadroga brigade did not disappoint at all as they played with a lot of guts and determination.

Ba missed key defenders Avinesh Swamy and Samuela Kautoga as the pair had to serve a one match suspension following their sending off in the last pool match of Fiji FACT.

Debutant sweeper Imraz Khan was impressive and played with a lot of confidence.

Striker Mavileko Nakama scored the lone goal of the encounter midway in the first half after connecting with a through pass from Shameel Rao.

The introduction of Saula Waqa and Manasa Nawakula made little impact while Nadroga striker Semesa Sacere missed two goal-scoring opportunities late in the match.

Ba faces Lautoka in its match at 5pm tomorrow while Nadroga will face Labasa at 3pm.

The teams:

Ba- Misiwani Nairube, Imraz Khan, Alvin Singh, Malakai Tiwa, Laisenia Raura, Praneel Naidu, Samuela Nabenia, Mavileko Nakama, Shameel Rao, Osea Vakatalesau (C), Narendra Rao.
