Champs to feature without youngsters

Reigning champion Rewa will miss the services of two youth players in the 2016 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants which gets underway in Nausori tomorrow.

Impressive defender Bruce Hughes and attacking midfielder Savenaca Baledrokadroka who featured strongly for the Delta Tigers in the Fiji FACT will play not part in their title defence as the pair has flown out of the country with the Vodafone Fiji U20 team to participate in the OFC Championship in Vanuatu.

The Marika Rodu coached side however welcomes veteran defender Simione Maikali back into its squad while Fiji Olympic reps Simione Tamanisau, Iosefo Verevou, Tevita Waranaivalu and Ratu Savenaca Nakalevu will add more depth and experience.

Coach Rodu believes his squad will perform well on home soil but also remains cautious.

“We are in a tough pool and need to make a good start. We are facing Nadi first and that match will be an uphill battle for us as Nadi is a very good team. They are Fiji FACT champions and surely they will come all out to beat us, therefore we need to take a cautious approach and play to the best of our abilities,” he said.

The Rewa vs Jacks/Professional Valuation Nadi match draws the curtains down to the opening day’s matches at Ratu Cakobau Park.

Rewa squad- Benito Waqavou, Peniame Drova, Lorima Dau, Simione Maikali, Josateki Tamudu, Mitieli Namuka, Usaia Tadu, Jonetani Buksh, Iosefo Vervou, Ratu Savenaca Nakalevu, Misaele Draunibaka, Tevita Waranaivalu, Joseph Mishra, Epeli Saukuru, Paulo Buke, Amani Makoe, Posiano Kalisito, Bruce Hughes, Savenaca Baledrokadroka, Simione Tamanisau.
