The Vodafone Fiji U20 football team will play three buildup matches in Sydney ahead of the OFC U20 Championship next month in Port Villa, Vanuatu.
The Yogendra Dutt coached side will play Sydney FC U20, Newcastle FC U20 and Western Sydney FC.
Assistant Coach Sunil Kumar believes the three matches will boost the confidence of the players and give them the much needed exposure as they will face professional opponents.
“Playing against the professional players in Sydney will give an added element of exposure and experience to our boys,” the Ba based school teacher told Fiji FA Media.
“The players are working really hard during training sessions, trying to improve themselves physically, mentally and technically.”
He said the morale in the camp is really high, with the boys aware that there are high expectations of them.
“The boys are ready to take the challenge and they know what is expected from them. All the teams will be tough and we are going to take each game at a time,” Kumar added.
Fiji is drawn with Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia in Pool A while Tahiti, New Zealand, Samoa and Solomon Islands are in Pool B.
The final 20-member squad from the Regional Academy which has been in camp for a year in Ba will be named by this weekend.
The team departs this Sunday for Australia and will stay there for ten days before heading to Vanuatu on 31 August.
Fiji plays its first match against the hosts on September, 03 at the Port Villa Stadium.
