Lami wins Southern League

Lami won the Vodafone Southern Zone Senior League after coming from behind to hold Nasinu to a 2-2 draw in their deciding fixture at the Fiji FA Headquarters ground in Suva today.

Nasinu took the lead midway in the first half through a Nathan Kumar free-kick and led 1-0 at the break.

Both teams lost a player each after Nasinu’s goal. Lami goalkeeper Ravneet Lingam and Nasinu midfielder Robert Nair were sent off by match referee Finau Vulivuli for violent conduct.

Central defender Sai Sami headed in Nasinu’s second goal after connecting well with a free-kick.

Nasinu was reduced to nine players following the second booking of the match to defender Nitan Kumar.

With an extra man on the field, Lami applied pressure and scored late goals through Deepak Chand and Rajnesh Kumar to finish the zone unbeaten.

Lami entered the match with 13 points and just needed a draw while Nasinu with 12 points had to win to win the zone.

Lami received a trophy and $750 from sponsors Vodafone Fiji Limited.

The Abdul Zaman coached side will now play the winner of the Western Zone on a home and away basis to determine the winner of Viti Levu who will then play the winner of the Vanua Levu Zone in the final playoff to determine the season’s Senior League winner.

The Senior League winner will get an automatic entry in the Premier division in the new season.
