Late equalizer saves 10-man Nadi

An injury time equalizer by Lekima Gonerau saved Nadi in their second match of the 2016 INKK Mobile Battle of Giants at Ratu Cakobau Park today as the Jetsetters held Dreketi 1-1.

Dreketi- the surprise package of the tournament started the match attacking and took the lead in the 38th minute via a Vikrant Chandra powerful attempt which gave goalkeeper Vereti Dickson no chance at all.

Nadi was reduced to 10 players early in the second half after Captain Napolioni Qasevakatini was sent off for violent conduct.

National goalkeeper Shaneel Naidu featured prominently for Dreketi and made some daring saves in both halves.

Nadi managed to get the scores level in the last few moments of the match as a shot by Ilimotama Jese came off the goalkeeper’s chest and landed into the path of Gonerau who made no mistake with a tap in.

Naidu injured his neck in the collision and had to be stretchered off the field. He was later taken to hospital for observation and treatment looks in doubt to complete the tournament for Dreketi.

Jacks/Professional Valuation Nadi faces NEL Engineering Suva in its final group match at 2pm tomorrow while Jadarum Investment Dreketi will take on host and defending champions Rewa at midday.
