Khem goal keeps Nadi in contention

National striker Anish Khem scored a second half goal as Nadi defeated Rewa 1-0 in their second Group B match of the 2016 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) at ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

Both teams entered the match with a point each after drawing their respective games yesterday.

Brothers Epeli Saukuru and Iosefo Verevou looked lethal upfront for Rewa but failed to capitalize on their chances in the first half while Rusiate Matarerega was denied twice by goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau.

A mistake by Rewa’s central defenders allowed Khem the space and opportunity to strike midway in the second half and the Korovuto Primary School teacher did not disappoint with his attempt which saw Tamanisau well beaten.

Rewa Coach Marika Rodu sent in Savenaca Baledrokadroka and Joseph Mishra  as late reinforcements but the pair failed to get past the solid Nadi defence marshaled by Ilimotama Jese and ably supported by Fiji U20 skipper Mataiasi Toma.

The win pushes Nadi to the second spot in Group B with 4 points while Rewa remains with 1 point.

Ba currently leads Group B with 4 points and a better goal difference.
