Lautoka registers second draw

Battle Of Giants champion Lautoka drew its second match of the 2016 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) 0-0 against Labasa at the ANZ Stadium in Suva tonight.

The feature Day 2 match had a lot in-store for the fans as both teams had their best players including the new signings on the field.

Lautoka started Mohammed Shazil Ali and Samuela Drudru upfront while Valerio Nawatu and Peni Finau were kept on the bench.

Benaminio Mateinaqara started in goal ahead of Senirusi Bokini while Pita Bolatoga made his first start for Labasa.

Ratu Apenisa Anare missed a golden chance for the Babasiga Lions early in the first half after being beautifully set up by Edwin Sahayam.

He again was set free in the 43rd minute but goalie Mateinaqara saved the situation brilliantly for the Blues.

Drudru on the other hand had two good chances but failed to execute them well while Shazil Ali was heavily marked and given little space to create opportunities.

Both coaches rung in changes in the second half with the aim to score goals and win but this did not eventuate as tight defence from both ends combined with some good goalkeeping and near misses summed up the match.

Lautoka introduced Shamil Rao, Cyrus Singh and Nawatu in the second half while Labasa sent in Gabriel Matanisiga, Akeimi Ralulu and Mohammed Issac.

The result pushes Propellor and Shaft Services sponsored Labasa to the top of the standings in Group A with 4 points while Singh’s Rentals Lautoka is third behind Pacific Finance Suva with 2 points. Suva after its 3-0 win over Nadroga is on 3 points and the Stallions sit at the bottom of the table with 1 point.

Labasa will face Nadroga in its last match at 3pm tomorrow while Lautoka will come up against Suva at 7pm.
