Matanisiga nets double in Lions win

Stylish striker Gabriel Matanisiga netted two goals in a space of two minutes as IDC champions Labasa defeated Lautoka 2-0 in a Vodafone Premier League at Subrail Park yesterday.

The two teams lived up to expectations and despite missing a number of regulars, they both kept the fans entertained with some constructive and fast paced football.

Matanisiga opened Labasa’s account in the 76th minute after getting a lovely through pass from Ilisoni Logaivou in midfield.

He followed with his second two minutes after in the 78th minute- this time taking full advantage of a defensive mistake by Zibraz Sahib to place the ball into the back of the net giving goalkeeper Senirusi Bokini no chance at all.

There was some commotion on the Lautoka bench after the second goal and Coach Kamal Swamy was sent off the field after he developed an argument with the reserve referee and started with his verbal abuses.

Labasa now has 12 points after 8 matches while Lautoka has 14 points after playing 8 games.
