Rakiraki marches into premier division

Rakiraki will feature in the Premier Division this season after beating Bua 1-0 in the Vodafone Senior League final.

The Westerners will replace the bottom placed team in the Vodafone Premier League and will make an appearance in the top division after a lapse of 41 years.

Rakiraki defeated Lami 3-1 in its first match of the final playoff on Saturday before accounting for Northern champs Bua 1-0 via a goal to midfielder Asaeli Cobuta.

President Shaneel Goundar said it is a proud moment for all Rakiraki people around the world and they will prepare thoroughly to compete against the big guns.

"We will prepare well for the Vodafone Premier League and a number of signings will be made when the next window opens so we can be competitive. We will try to give more exposure to our local boys and to enhance football in the district, we will try to make our local competition more lucrative for the clubs," he said.

Rakiraki won $7000 for winning the Senior Division League.
