Singh puts Ba in IDC final

Defender Alvin Singh’s extra time header has put reigning champion into the grand finale of the 2016 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC).

The Men In Black defeated Lautoka 2-1 in a thrilling second semifinal clash at the ANZ Stadium tonight.

As expected the clash between the neighbours proved to be exciting and full of action.

Ba went up in the 27th minute of play after Saula Waqa’s brilliant work on the left hand edge of the box was beautifully finished by Samuela Nabenia with a tap in, giving Lautoka goalkeeper Benaminio Mateinaqara no chance at all.

Lautoka managed to draw the match 9 minutes before fulltime through sweeper Kolinio Sivoki whose pile driver from a Shameel Rao corner kick rocketed into the roof of the net.

The equalizer by Lautoka forced the match into extra time.

Ba scored the winner in the 109th minute through Singh who headed in a perfectly delivered corner kick from Captain Avinesh Swamy.

Lautoka’s replacement striker Mohammed Shazil Ali had the chance to level scores just before the final whistle as he was in a one-on-one situation but his attempt was daringly saved by goalkeeper Misiwani Nairube.

Ba will now face Labasa in a repeat of the 2011 IDC final at 4pm tomorrow.
