Champs Nadi make flying start

Defending champion Nadi started its campaign in the 2016 Pacific Cup on an impressive note and defeated Ba 2-0 in an exciting clash at Prince Charles Park tonight.

Despite dropping star striker Napolioni Qasevakatini and defender Vuniuci Tikomaimereke earlier today due to disciplinary issues, the hosts started the match attacking with lanky strikers Rusiate Matarerega and Andrew Naicker leading the charge.

Naicker took full advantage of a defensive blunder and slotted in the opener for the hosts in the 19th minute.

Saula Waqa missed a golden chance to level scores for the Men In Black towards the end of the first half as Nadi went to the break with a narrow 1-0 lead.

Guest midfielder Christopher Clarke beautifully controlled play for Nadi in the second half and was the provider of the second goal which was tapped in brilliantly by Matarerega.

Ba launched a series of attacks in the last 10 minutes but some excellent piece of goalkeeping by Vereti Dickson kept the scores the scores intact.

Nadi faces Labasa in its match at 8.15pm tomorrow while Ba will take on New Zealand Fiji Football Inc (NZFFI) All Stars at 7pm.
