Dreketi upsets Ba in VPL

Dreketi created the biggest upset of the 2016 Vodafone Premier League today after defeating title contenders Ba 2-1 in a thrilling match Govind Park.

The win pushes the Northerners to the sixth place on the standings with 12 points after 13 matches while Nadi has now slipped to seventh place with 11 points after 12 matches and Nadroga sits at the bottom with 6 points after 12 matches.

Ba now needs at least a draw against Labasa in its last match of the season on Sunday to clinch the title.

A mistake by goalkeeper Josaia Ratu allowed Dreketi to go up in the 4th minute through striker Setareki Sokowasa.

Ba managed to draw the match level in the 27th minute when Samuela Kautoga headed in a Avinesh Swamy free-kick.

The teams rested 1-1 at the break and nippy marksman Apisai Sasewa netted the winner for Dreketi after beautifully finishing off a through pass from the right flank which was misjudged by the defence and mis-timed by the keeper, allowing him to tap the ball into an empty goalmouth.

Dreketi plays its last match against Nadi on Sunday.
