Suva registers impressive win in opener

Suva registered an impressive 3-0 win over the United States of America (USA) All Stars in the opening match of the 2016 Pacific Cup at Prince Charles Park in Nadi today.

The Whites despite featuring without the likes of Nickel Chand, Madhavan Goundar, Waisake Navunigasau and Filipe Baravilala impressed in all facets of play with Ravinesh Karan Singh, Poasa Bainivalu and replacement Sahil Dave working tirelessly throughout the encounter.

The presence of Gurjit Singh on the sideline as the team's technical advisor further boosted Suva's morale.

The teams rested 0-0 at halftime and the Capital City side opened their account midway in the second spell through Setareki Hughes.

Indiscipline crept into the USA team after the goal and a serious foul on veteran Pita Rabo saw match referee Ravitesh Behari award Suva a penalty in the 56th minute.

Dave calmly converted his attempt to double Suva’s lead and Ravinesh Karan Singh nailed the third and final goal which took a deflection off a USA defender.

Suva is on a BYE tomorrow while the USA All Stars will face Rewa at 5.45pm.
