Ba keeps semifinal hopes alive

Lanky marksman Saula Waqa scored an 81st minute winner as Ba defeated Puaikura FC of Cook Islands 1-0 at Stade Yoshida in Kone, New Caledonia last night to keep its semifinal hopes alive.

The Men In Black now have four points after two matches and are currently second in Group B behind leaders Team Wellington who defeated Hienghene Sport of New Caledonia 3-1 to register their second straight win of the tournament.

Ba faces Team Wellington in its final group match at 6pm (Fiji Time) on Saturday and will need to win the encounter at any cost to top the group and progress to the semifinals while a draw will be enough for the Kiwis.

The two teams last met in the semifinal of the 2015 edition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva where Team Wellington prevailed 2-0.
