Fiji U19 beats Club Mauritius in friendly

The Vodafone Fiji U19 side defeated an experienced Club Mauritius outfit 2-1 in its final match of the Melbourne Tour last night.

Down by a goal at halftime, the Bal Sanju Reddy coached side made a strong comeback in the second half and scored goals through midfielder Ratu Kaliova Dau and Iliesa Rakuka to seal the win under 8 degrees temperature.

Fiji defeated Victorian Multicultural Sports Association (VMSA) All Stars 3-2 in its opening match of the tour before going down 3-0 to Melbourne Victory.

The Savenaca Baledrokadroka skippered side overcame Berwick City 2-1 in its third match on Thursday night before registering its third win last night against the Mauritians who had six experienced players in their starting 11.

Coach Reddy said the team has learned a lot from playing against quality opponents.

"It was a good learning experience for our boys as we played all quality opponents. All throughout this tour, we remained focused to the purpose which was to give international exposure to the players as we build-up towards the OFC playoffs in Tahiti.”

"I would like to thank Fiji FA and Victorian Multicultural Sports Association for making this tour possible whereby we were able to gauge our players for our final preparations,” he said.

The team returns home tomorrow.
