Suva to feature without key players

Suva will play Battle Of Giants (BOG) champion Ba in the Vodafone Premier League today without a number of key players who are out with injury.

Rugged defender Waisake Navunigasau is out of action for the next three weeks after copping a serious shoulder injury in a friendly match against Lami this week while Remueru Tekiate and Kelvin Naidu are also carrying injuries and will miss out.

Utility player Filipe Baravilala will also miss the match as he has two yellow cards to his name.

Coach Gurjit Singh told FijiLive that despite the injuries, they will be out to give their best as they are still in the running for a top two finish and will need to maintain their consistency.

“Playing without these key players will be very hard and I will have to use some players from the bench against Ba.”

“I also have very few options on the bench at the moment as Tevita and Madhavan are still in Police camp while two players are away with the Fiji U19 team in Tahiti.”

“Our defence has been weakened as key players like Waisake, Filipe and Remueru are out. We will have to rely on other players to lift up the game.”

"We played a friendly match against Lami and lost 4-3 and this game allowed me to identify our weaknesses and work on the mistakes before the Ba game.”

“Jai Narain College student Faizal Ali who made his debut in the BOG will surely be used in this game and I am looking forward to a good performance from him in the attack.”

Commenting about Ba, Singh said the Men In Black will be very tough to beat on their home soil and their recent form has been outstanding.

“Ba is super-fit at the moment and they have a very strong team. They are playing at home for the first time after winning the BOG so they surely will be out to win in front of their home fans. We will try to spoil their party and I will see what  game plan I can execute to counter them,” he added.

Suva currently sits on second spot in the Vodafone Premier League with 16 points after playing 10 matches while Ba has 12 points from 8 matches.

The all exciting affair kicks off at 3pm.
