Fiji bows out of U16 tourney

Fiji has bowed out of the OFC U16 Championship after losing its semifinal clash 3-1 to the Solomon Islands in Honiara today.

The Yogendra Dutt coached side found the going tough from the opening whistle and conceded a goal to Charles Mani in just 45 seconds.

Mani doubled the advantage for the hosts in the 29th minute before Fiji pulled one back just before halftime through Nikhil Pillay.

Fiji picked up its game in the second half and made some good attacking moves but another goal by Mani late into the match sealed a spot for the Solomon Islands in next year's FIFA World Cup in Peru.

The Stanley Waita coached side will face New Zealand in the final tomorrow at 2pm (Fiji Time) while Fiji will face Tahiti in the third place playoff at 10am.

New Zealand thumped Tahiti 4-1 in the second semifinal.

Both New Zealand and Solomon Islands will fly Oceania's flag in the U17 World Cup,
