Lautoka crowned Pacific Cup champions

Fiji soccer giants Lautoka added another title to their cabinet tonight after beating New Zealand Fiji Football Incorporated (NZFFI) All Stars 1-0 in the final of the 2018 Pacific Cup in Sydney.

The Kamal Swamy coached side was one of the most consistent teams in the tournament and the inclusion of Australia based guest players Anthony Frangie and Alex Boyadjian really strengthened their campaign as the pair netted many decisive goals.

Frangie also netted the winner in the grand final in the 36th minute of play.

The final proved to be an interesting affair as NZFFI All Stars looked determined to retain their title while Lautoka was keen to win their third title of the 2018 season after earlier bagging the IDC and National League titles back at home.

NZFFI All Stars with the services of evergreen goalkeeper Ravinesh Narayan, Samuela Kautoga, Rinal Prasad, James Hoyt, Jake Butler, Tim Myers, Mitch Cooper, Andrew Aba, Alvin Avinesh, Shuaib Khan and lanky Rusiate Matarerega had their fair share of chances in the final but could not get on the score-board as the Blues defended well with goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara also displaying a grand game.

The Samuela Drudru skippered Lautoka side outclassed Western Sydney 3-1 earlier in the semifinals today while NZFFI All Stars overcame Rewa 6-5 in penalties to seal their spot in the final.

Lautoka returns home AUD $10,000 richer while NZFFI ALL Stars receive AUD $3000 for reaching the final.

Meanwhile the 2019 edition of the Rams Group of Companies sponsored Pacific Cup will be held in Auckland, New Zealand in late November.
