Labasa name Cup squad, keen on Roy

Labasa FA have named their traveling 17-member squad and are hopeful of securing one of their own, Roy Krishna, and former Waitakere coach Neil Emblen for the Pacific Cup tournament scheduled to be played in Auckland, New Zealand in two weeks.

Speaking to FijiLive, association secretary Nilesh Lal said members of the Labasa Fan Club in New Zealand are handling talks with Emblen to coach Labasa during the tournament and Krishna to take the pitch in the Babasiga Lions stripes.

“We are awaiting their advice on that,” Lal said.

“But at least to get Roy’s services for the tournament would be a great morale booster for the team especially the players. We will be absolutely delighted to have his services.”

If given the go-ahead, Roy will join a strong squad of 17 players which includes the core of the IDC squad and some new faces who were picked after intense preparation that started Monday.

Three others are waiting on the sideline and could be part of the traveling squad depending on the approval of their transfers.

The three are Krishneel Krishna (from Nadi), Misaele Draunibaka (from Rewa) and Samuela Drudru (from Suva).

The Babasiga Lions are grouped with Waitakere United, Nadi, NZ Navua and NZ Nasinu in Pool B. Pool A sees Ba as top seed ahead of Lautoka, Sydney, NZ Labasa and NZ Nadi.

The Pacific Cup is jointly organised by the NZ Fiji Football INC., Australia Fiji Football and the Fiji FA. It will be played on 21-25 November at the Mount Smart Stadium.
