Lelean, RKS students face suspension

Some students of Lelean Memorial and Ratu Kadavulevu (RKS) schools face possible suspension after a free-for-all brawl during the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League round four of games in Suva today.

The incident happened during the RKS-Lelean Under-19 challenge match at the Veiuto School grounds.

Competition co-ordinator Biu Colati labelled the incident as unfortunate, but one they would need to approach rationally.

“We do not condone that kind of behaviour,” Colati said. “That said we will still need to look at the contributing factors.”

Colati said they will call a disciplinary meeting Monday afternoon to decide on the course of action.

“We will have to re-look at the case, consult our by-laws before we can make a decision. In previous incidents similar to this we have had students suspended and/or fined from the competition for their part in the punch-ups.

“I have received the match commissioner’s report, but the decision is not mine to make. The final decision will be made collectively by the disciplinary committee.

Meanwhile, RKS went on to retain their U19 challenge title with a 11-10 victory over Lelean.
