Champs Rewa register hard fought win

Defending champion Rewa registered a hard fought 1-0 win over arch rivals Ba in the feature Day 1 match of the 2018 Vodafone Fiji FACT at Ratu Cakobau Park today.

Striker Setareki Hughes netted the lone goal of the fixture in the third minute after connecting well with a Misaele Draunibaka through pass inside the Ba box.

The early goal added pressure on the Men In Black to perform and despite dominating possession in both halves and having more chances of scoring, the Ronil Kumar coached side failed to find the back of the net as the Delta Tigers defended desperately.

Rewa goalkeeper Manasa Waqavou proved to be their savior as he time and again made daring saves to keep a clean sheet against him and more importantly keep his side into semifinal contention and send the patriotic and loyal fans home happy.

The loss now puts Ba in a tough situation and the traditional giants of Fiji soccer will need to beat Labasa in their next match at 6pm tomorrow to keep their semifinal chances alive.

Rewa on the other hand will play Dreketi at 2pm and another win could see the hosts edge closer to the semifinals.
