Goneva scoops top awards

Fijian winger Vereniki Goneva scooped three main awards during the Newcastle Falcons' Big Bash awards night on Tuesday night.

Goneva won the Ken Lockerbie Trophy for Player of the Season and also claimed Players' Player of the Season and Try of the Season (v London Irish at home).

The veteran Flying Fijians centre was also named Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for April 2018 last week.

Goneva has been in stellar form for the Falcons as they claimed their first Aviva Premiership Rugby semi-final place in their history, and he climbed to the top of the League’s scoring charts alongside Josh Adams.

Academy Player of the Season went to Adam Radwan for an incredible year which saw him as the top try-scorer in the European Challenge Cup, making his Aviva Premiership debut and winning the Anglo-Welsh Cup Breakthrough Award.

Scotland Under-20s scrum-half Ruaridh Dawson won Community Player of the Season for his efforts in promoting the game, chef Alam Minto won Clubman of the Year while chairman Semore Kurdi was a reluctant recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Rugby award.
