Suva edges Nadroga in pulsating final

Suva staged a strong second half comeback to beat champions Nadroga 36-35 and clinch the Skipper Cup for the first time at the ANZ Stadium today.

Playing in front of a big home crowd, the hosts started well and scored their opening try in the second minute through Enele Malele to lead 7-0.

Nadroga replied in style with a brace of tries to Jone Navori and one each to Aporosa Tabulawaki and Ifereimi Tovilevu as they led 28-10 at halftime.

Suva scored an early second half try through Vatili Dulaki to narrow the gap to 28-17 but veteran prop Setefano Samoca managed to further extend Nadroga’s lead  to 35-17 after diving in for their fifth try.

The Capital City side dominated play in the last quarter and scored three more tries through Fiji Warriors Captain Mesulame Dolokoto, Jonathan Petueli and Levani Kurumudu to snatch a one point victory.

Suva received $30,000 for its amazing feat this season while Nadroga had to settle for $15,000.

Meanwhile Malolo won the inaugural Skipper Cup Women’s title after beating favorites Suva 34-24 earlier in the day.

The U20 title was won by Nadi after they defeated Namosi 29-24 in the final.
