Fiji U19 registers impressive win

The Vodafone Fiji U19 football team kick started its campaign in the OFC U19 Championship in Tahiti today with an impressive 3-1 win over Vanuatu.

The Bal Sanju Reddy coached side played with a lot of determination and focus and scored a late first half goal through Tavua striker Ratu Kaliova Dau and led 1-0 at the break.

Nadi’s Tito Vodowaqa doubled Fiji’s lead in the 54th minute from a tap-in as the Vanuatu defence failed to clear a shot by the Fijian attackers.

Vanuatu pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 80th minute and Ba midfielder Kishan Sami slammed in Fiji’s third goal in the 91st minute  after Fiji was awarded a late penalty.

Sami’s initial attempt was saved by the goalkeeper but he managed to find the back of the net through his rebound attempt.

Fiji will play the Solomon Islands in its next match on Friday.

The Solomon Islands defeated New Caledonia 3-2 in their clash earlier today.
