Drua beats Force, seals home semifinal spot

The Fiji Airways Fijian Drua fought tooth and nail to beat the Western Force 33-28 in Perth today and finish the National Rugby Championship (NRC) on top and secure a home semifinal.

The Senirusi Seruvakula coached side made a slow start and allowed the hosts to score two early tries through winger Rod Davies and centre Rodney Iona and take a 14-0 lead.

Winger Levani Kurumudu scored the lone try of the first half for Drua and a successful conversion from Enele Malele saw the visitors’ trail 14-7 at halftime.

The Fijians lifted their game in the second half and tries by Aporosa Tabulawaki and Malele gave them a 21-14 lead.

Davies again scored for the hosts and kicked a successful conversion to level up the match and make the last quarter very exciting and entertaining.

Crack centre Apisalome Vota and kingpin Alivereti Veitokani scored two more tries for the Drua to seal the important win while a late try by fly-half Andrew Deegan was not enough for the Force to spoil the Fijian party.

The win also sees the Drua taking out the Minor Premiership and the Horan-Little Shield for 2018.
