Shalmeen double saves 9-man Blues

Former Fiji Futsal rep Mohammed Shalmeen scored a late equalizer and then the winner as defending champion Blues FC came from behind to beat Friends United 3-2 in the opening match of the 2018 Vodafone National Club Championship finals in Suva today.

William Valentine opened the account for the Nadi based club in the 2nd minute of play but a quick equalizer by midfielder Nathan Kumar and a strike from Joseph Mishra put Friends United into the lead.

The Blues were reduced to 10 players just before halftime was Bir Khan was sent off.

With an extra man on the field, Friends United played the second half with more confidence.

The Blues were further reduced to only 9 players after defender Roko Tupou was sent off following his second booking.

Despite the set-back, the Jetsetters got their acts together in the dying stages of the match and managed to equalize and nail the winner through Shalmeen in the 87th and 92nd minute.
