Fijiana loses to NZ, faces Australia in semis

The Fiji Airways Fijiana side finished second in Pool B of the 2018 Oceania 7s after losing 27-0 to reigning champions New Zealand in their third and final pool match in Suva today.

The Litia Naiqato skippered side were no match to the Kiwis and wilted under pressure.

New Zealand led 17-0 at halftime with speed merchant Janna Vaughan grabbing a hat-trick of tries.

Towering prop Terina Te Tamaki and Rebekah Tufuga scored two more tries for New Zealand in the second half to keep their title defence campaign on track.

In their earlier matches today, Fijiana defeated Cook Islands 26-7 and thrashed New Caledonia 46-5.

Fiji will now face Pool A winners Australia in the second semifinal at 1.27pm tomorrow while New Zealand will play Papua New Guinea in the first semifinal at 1.06pm.
