Fiji wins Oceania Trophy Challenge

The Vodafone Fiji U20 side has booked its spot in the World Rugby Junior Trophy challenge in Uruguay next year after beating Tonga 18-13 and clinching the Oceania Trophy Challenge at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

Fiji started the match attacking and Europe based Filimoni Savou scored the first try in the third minute to give the hosts a 5-0 lead.

John Manu doubled Fiji’s lead in the 10th minute and a successful conversion by him saw Fiji take a 12-0 lead.

Tonga's Sione Va'eno pulled one back in the 24th minute and a successful conversion by Talesio Oneone narrowed the gaps to only 5 points.

Fiji led 12-7 at halftime.

Oneone slotted in a penalty early in the second half to further reduce the score-line by only 2 points.

Fiji increased its lead in the 50th minute through a John Manu penalty.

And another Manu penalty in the 66th minute sealed the deal for the hosts although Tonga applied the pressure and scored another penalty through Oneone in the 73rd minute.
