Warriors retain Pacific Challenge title

The Telecom Fiji Warriors successfully defended their title on home soil today after beating Samoa 48-25 in their final fixture of the 2017 World Rugby Pacific Challenge.

The Senirusi Seruvakula coached side dominated the match in both spells and led 20-6 at halftime with tries to fullback Lepani Raiyala, hooker Samuela Suguturaga and halfback Serupepeli Vularika while fly-half Jonetani Ralulu kicked a penalty and converted one of the three tries.

Samoan Captain Patrick Faapale scored Samoa’s points through two penalties.

Towering forward Kalivati Tawake scored Fiji’s fourth try early in the second half and a successful conversion from Ralulu extended Fiji Warriors lead by 27-6.

Samoan winger Danny Tusitala scored their first try after collecting a neat pass from a breakdown, and this somewhat increased the tempo of the match.

Fiji Warriors replied in style from the restart and scored through inside centre Eroni Vasteri. Ralulu added the extras to increase their lead by 34-11.

Number 8 Tietie Tuimauga dived in for Samoa’s second try but the Fijians again struck from the restart and scored through Captain Mosese Voka.

Replacement Nuu Lene got a consolation try for the Samoans before Man of the Match, Raiyala scored his second and Fiji’s final try which was successfully converted by Apisalome Waqatabu.
