Fiji Warriors remain on song

Veteran fly-half Jonetani Ralulu scored 16 points as the Telecom Fiji Warriors defeated Junior Japan 39-16 at the ANZ Stadium today to keep their World Rugby Pacific Challenge title defence campaign on track.

The young Japanese outfit started well and took a 10-3 lead early in the half via a Tevita Tatafu converted try and a Naoto Saito penalty.

The Fijians gathered their momentum after the first quarter and scored three unanswered converted tries through winger Apete Daveta, Ralulu and hooker Samuela Suguturaga.

Saito kept the Japanese in the game by kicking two more penalties as the Warriors led 24-16 at halftime.

The second half was scrappy and a bit of downpour at the Laucala oval made the conditions little slippery for the players.

Towering forward Jiuta Takubu dived in for Fiji’s fourth try which was successfully converted by Ralulu and this extended their lead to 31-16.

Halfback Serupepeli Vularika kicked one more penalty for the Fijians before replacement Cyril Reece scored the fifth and final try to wrap up the impressive victory.

The Fiji Warriors will face Samoa A in their last match at 3pm on Saturday while Junior Japan will play Tonga A at 12.30pm.
