Labasa holds FACT champs

Labasa held Fiji FACT champs Rewa to a goal-less draw in their Vodafone Premier League clash at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

Rewa entered the match without the likes of Samuela Kautoga, Epeli Saukuru and Savenaca Nakalevu while veteran Lorima Dau started from the bench.

The Babasiga Lions enjoyed more possession and had more chances to score in the first spell but the brilliance of veteran Simione Tamanisau in goal denied them opportunities.

The second half was equally contested but the hosts lost right back Vuniuci Tikomaimereke to a red card after his second booking and this somewhat gave Labasa more space on the right flank to launch their attacks.

Wasasala’s attempt came off the post in the 74th minute and replacement Nickel Chand and Taniela Waqa missed golden opportunities towards the end of the match while Iosefo Verevou and Tevita Waranaivalu were also unlucky for Rewa.

The result does not change the standing of the two sides on the points table. Both teams have 11 points each after playing 7 matches but Rewa is third due to better goal difference and Labasa is fourth.

The teams:

Rewa- Simione Tamanisau, Peniame Drova, Amani Makoe (C), Usaia Tadu, Vuniuci Tikomaimereke, Mitieli Namuka (Naizal Hussein), Ratu Tevita Waranaivalu, Madhavan Goundar (Posiano Kalisito), Gabirieli Matanisiga, Iosefo Verevou, Misaele Draunibaka (Lorima Dau).

Labasa- Akuila Mateisuva (C), Antonio Tuivuna, Lekima Gonerau, Ilisoni Logaivou, Manasa Levaci, Leone Damudamu, Taniela Waqa, Anish Khem, Edwin Sahayam, Ratu Apenisa Anare (Nickel Chand), Christopher Wasasala.
