10-man Rewa holds BOG champs

A 10-man Rewa outfit held reigning champion Lautoka to a 1-1 draw in their second pool match of the 2017 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants at Subrail Park in Labasa tonight.

The star-studded sides had a lot to show to the Northern fans on a cold and chilly evening.

Rewa was reduced to 10 players in the 22nd minute after defender Vuniuci Tikomaimereke was sent off for using the assistance of his hand to clear a Lautoka corner kick.

The offence also awarded Lautoka a penalty and midfielder Zibraaz Sahib calmly placed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.

Despite playing with a player less on the field, the Delta Tigers did not lack the firepower upfront and launched many attacks, with the aim of getting the equalizer.

And defender-cum-striker Samuela Kautoga leveled the scores in the 82nd minute after neatly walked past a couple of defenders and placing the ball to the right of goalkeeper Benaminio Mateinaqara.

The result keeps both teams in contention for a semifinal spot from Group B.

Lautoka currently lead the Group with 4 points and have a superior goal difference over Ba who also have 4 points. Rewa has 2 points from two matches while Dreketi which has bowed out of the tournament is yet to register a point.

General Machinery Lautoka will take on Ba in the feature Group B match at 12.30pm tomorrow while Rewa will face Dreketi at 2.30pm.
